Umm..... has it been 6 months already? WOW...

Ok, I am way, way, way behind on posting, but once I went back to work things got a little crazy. Oh yeah, AND we put our home up for sale so I added crazy on top of crazy...Philip says "cause that is how we roll around here". Ha! So true! We are always tacking some sort of major life event it seems.

My boss made a comment with me when I started back to work that has proved to be sooo true. He asked me how I was doing... I must have looked dog tired. He chuckled when I said I was exhausted and he said "Oh YEAH, 3 IS A GAME CHANGER"! Can I get an AMEN on that one? (However, I hear that at 4 it is no different than 3, so at least we have that. Right Philip? :)

Anyways, a lot has occurred since our last post.....lets see...

The "baby" had his 4th birthday. He LOVES it when mama calls him BABY. :) He had a BLAST at his party (even though he didnt quite get what was going on)... he got that he was getting presents and that he was getting cake! He could also show you his 4 fingers and tell you he was four. That is another thing mama has taught him. He does things 4 year olds do and my bigs and daddy sometime get a little frustrated and he now will say to them..."But I'm 4!" Ha!

Sibling rivalry has arrived and sometimes there is a little jealousy surfacing. How come "he gets to" and "well he did it to me" and "Mamo, I dont care that you are 4...." those are all what our BIGS are now complaining about...Yep, we have all offically bonded and the honeymoon period is about up... I am waiting for the "quit touching me, quit looking at me to start..." Ba ha ha... All of the complaining really makes me smile (my Bigs would tell you that I am NOT always smiling), but it truely means we have all bonded enough to get under each others skin!

Lets see what else? We went to the beach last week and Mamo LOVED his first beach trip. He mostly liked the sand and the ocean scared him unless he was being held by mommy or daddy. This kid really wants to be held ALL THE TIME! He is the most snuggly little guy EVER. Loves to kiss, loves to hug, loves to snuggle. He LOVES his daddy to pieces but he is now also a BIG TIME mama's boy! Melt my heart! We always bonded but we have really come into our own special bonding over the last few months. Its been REAL good.

He is a daddy's boy and LOVES to be outside. Philip hangs with him at the park A LOT! Philip is such a good daddy-- he knows daddy will take him to the park and let him ride his trike for hours! He loves and knows that his daddy is his protector in this household.

We also rented bikes at the beach and this little one got to get a BIG BOY BIKE with training wheels. He was EVERYWHERE! He can bike for miles and miles! He made lots of treks around the neighborhood and then once he figured out that "HIS" Caitlin and Robby were treking all up and down the beach trail he had to be a part of that too. He doesn't want to be 4 in these instances. He thinks he can do what they can do and he learned pretty quick how to peddle backwards to stop his bike... cause that was the only way mama was letting him trek all over the beach. When we would cross the street (and stop traffic) he would hold out his hands like a crosswalk cop until he got all the way across and it was hilarious. You could see everyone in the cars cracking up. So cute!

So how has adoption changed our family? I am DOG tired.... So is Philip. Mamo is still Mamo. Not Daniel. And we love it! He is MAMO for sure to us! :) He will tell you if you ask him what his name is and he will tell you "Mamo Payne". My heart overflows everytime I hear him say it. Sometimes you will get a "Mamo Daniel Payne". He mostly gets that is his name and not everyones else's... he used to say Daniel Mommy, Daniel Daddy, etc...

We also lost one of our dogs that he was closest too. That was hard. He still talks about him and sings songs about him. He always says he misses him and wants to see him.On the way to dinner one night he announced "that when he dies he is going to Heavan to play with Acey". and he's 4.

He has really bonded with Copper since Acey passed away. That is a really BIG deal cause the two of them got off to a ROCKY start and didnt really care too much for each other. He talked the entire beach trip about missing Copper and wanting to go home to see him.

Mamo was baptized at our church on a Saturday... he wasnt particulary fond of the water on his head. He talked about that for weeks. It was an amazingly beautiful ceremony that our former minister and one of our current ministers performed for us. We had a lot of family and close friends beside us and it was real sweet. He loves his little bible and reading stories of Jesus.

He LOVES school and the last 2 weeks has asked everyday when he is going to school. His school is out for summer break and he will be starting a new school for summer next week. Thank goodness cause he needs it! He thrives in a school setting.. he loves making friends and he LOVES learing.

He is smart as a whip. I know every parent says that but this little guy cracks us up. We pulled on to the Concord ramp coming home for the beach and he started screaming home, home! He could get you to his house if you were driving him. He can tell you how to get there. AND HE IS 4!

He doesnt say Choc-o-lut Mulk anymore. That makes me so sad. We didnt even realize it till the other day when he asked for some kitty kat "milk". I was like woa, he didnt say MULK, and the BIGS immediately started calling it Mulk and telling him it was MULK not MILK. That was our FAVORITE thing he said and we were all quite sad to have that accent go away.

He still has a smile that lights up a room and melts your heart. He is very gentile and pretty laid back. His love language is touch and my husband is so thrilled about this. They both share the same love language! He is a riot and keeps us laughing ALL. THE. TIME. Look at this face and his smile!!!

He has pretty much been fluent in English since 12-14 week mark. He now even talks in spanish.. GRACIAS is his new favorite word. He thanks you all the time in Spanish. Speaking of thanks, this is the most grateful little boy who is 4 that I know. He ALWAYS says thank you. At the beach he was most thankful for all the groceries that we bought. We were unloading the car and he was acting like it was Christmas morning; he was so overjoyed and just kept thanking us over and over. Its those moments that remind me how blessed we are to be able to go to the grocery and get food and not think anything about it. Going to the grocery is one of his favorite outings still. He.is.so.thankful.for.food.

He has shared a tiny little bit about his situation in Ethiopia. A tiny bit. He remembers being "left" and "being sad". Some things about Ethiopia arent good memories for him. I pray that there are more happy memories in there that he will share one day. I have a heavy heart for what little Mamo left behind in his homeland---- all the smells, the culture, his people, their ways... I only expereinced if for a short time and I miss it everyday.

Mamo is quite smitten with "HIS" Caitlin and Robby! Caitlin LOVES to PLAY with him and he EATS THAT UP!!! She is referred to as HIS Catilin and look out if Robby is mean to her cause Mamo is ready to tell Mommy and Daddy on him as soon as the opportunity arises! We love this cause now we get to know EVERYTHING... if we cant settle an argument on who said what and who called who what we just ask the little man... he squeals like a pig! and he is 4!!!

Robby is definitley Mamo's BIG brother and Mamo has now designated him as "the person to take him to the bathroom". Robby LOVES this honor that has been bestowed upon him. Mamo no longer wants to go to the bathroom with "the girls" when out in public! Robby also shared a room with him at the beach and was such a trooper. There was one night that they shared Robby's twin bed when he was scared and slept on Robby's chest. Awww... he also gets up early with the chickens like his brother Robby.

Wow. It has almost been 6 months and I just contacted our case worker to set up our next homestudy report on how he is doing. Really, I dont think it could have gone any better, any smoother, or could feel any more natural than it does right now. We are a beautiful family of 5; HANDPICKED BY OUR JESUS. He has wonderful plans and we are sooo thankful that he brought our family together through adoption. It couldnt be any more perfect at this moment as I am soo proud of our 3 kiddos and my AMAZING husband!. I am DOG tired ALL THE TIME BUT it is sooo worth it...I do often feel like I am coming up short in some areas in my life right now-- there just isnt enought time and enough of me to go around! BUT IT IS OH SOOOO WORTH IT!

Fundraise your adoption and your mission trips with Ordinary Hero!

Did you know that Ordinary Hero, a local non-profit, founded by Kelly Putty is now HELPING families fundraise their Adoptions and those who are going on Mission Trips???

I am so excited about this, cause I recently jumped on board with Ordinary Hero to HELP families and individuals fundraise!!!

You see it was OUR experience that fundraising is just down right HARD and actually PAINFUL! Yes, there were joyous moments when we were fundraising, but it was a VERY HUMBLING act to ASK others to help. We felt like we were being JUDGED by asking others to help. I am sure sometimes we were and other times we were just paranoid! It was just so not like us TO ASK FOR HELP! BUT Bottom line is that we were called to go get our Mamo... and it was A LOT of money to bring home our little Miracle! No denying it was the Lord's plan (who else can orchestrate an adoption from first meeting him and not being "paper ready" to having him home in 5 months!) But the BOTTOM line is God told us to TRUST HIM and that he would provide the means to bring this beautiful boy HOME! We knew that by "FUNdraising" we would PREACH about the Orphan CRISIS and possibly move others HEARTS to consider and act upon adoption... we felt like this was what we were SUPPOSED to do! It sure was HARD though! We were blessed to only have to raise PART of the money we needed, and so many others that we know NEED to fundraise ALL of it! I am so excited to help others who are now walking in our shoes, down the fundraising path, and hope to offer some encouragement along the way!! :) I had several friends that PICKED me up along the way when the fundrasing wasn't so fun! I would have never made it without them! So this is my way to reach out to others and HELP!

A few months back, Kelly Putty launched the Ordinary Hero STORE site. It is a site that allows families and those interested on seeking mission oppotrunities a chance to sell products and earn a "commission" on what they sell! :) GENIUS! We had a t-shirt fundraiser when we were funding our adoption (that proved to be A LOT of work with little profit), so when I heard about Ordinary Hero selling T-shirts that you can ask your friends and family to buy I thought this was SO COOL! Becoming an AFFILIATE is FREE! and you simply ask your friends and family to check out the Ordinary Hero Store for goodies to BUY and they get something cool and the affiliates get 40% commission off each item sold! (And they don't have to ship ANYTHING!) Kelly has people that do that!!! That is a HUGE bonus, let me tell you that right now! I LIVED at that postoffice and all the postage really added up! This is HUGE folks!~
Oh yeah, and because she is soo generous, Kelly also offers GRANT money in the way of contests to keep her affiliates motivated! FREE MONEY folks! 40% earning and a chance at GRANT Money$$$! That should perk up some ears! SIGN up today to become an affiliate. Word on the street is you might want to sign up soon! Real soon! Another contest is starting to take shape! :)

If you know someone in the adoption process, or someone who is thinking about it please tell them to Check out the Ordinary Hero Affiiliate program!
If you know someone wanting to take a Mission Trip, to Africa, To Haiti, To ANYWHERE tell them about this program! Its not CHEAP to go on these trips, so please support someone who is trying to go!!!

#1 reason WHY people dont ADOPT or go on MISSION TRIPS is LACK OF FUNDS TO DO SO!!! Kelly is trying to help change that!!! ( She just couldn't stop at her ORIGINAL slogan of CHANGE THE WORLD FOR ONE-- she is taking it upon herself to Change the world for A WHOLE LOTTA Folks!!!!) Ha! ha!

So, MY job with Ordinary Hero is "FUNdraising Coach"! :) I help others stay motivated along their journey and give them selling ideas on how to reach more people. I am also helping Kelly find items/merchandise for the OH STORE! We are working on some adoption shirts for families who are interested in adoption, as well as some cool gear for our Mission Trip folks. Ordianary Hero aslo has some REALLY "On the ground" PRACTICAL items that are for sale benefiting the children and villages in Africa. I am working with a few different Non-profits in Africa right now, hoping to help them with few select ministries that we hope to bless by partnering with them. :) Soo excited about that and can't wait to see where God leads us with those ministries! (Think Handicrafts!!!)

Check the Ordinary Hero STORE often, as we hope to continually bring NEW items to offer to our affiliates to FUNdraise with! :)

Stop by the OH STORE today to learn how you can buy a GOAT, raincoats, shoes, warm blankets and water. THINGS WE take for granted (ok, maybe not the GOAT :), but stuff that once you get off the plane in Africa that kids and folks just DON'T have....like food, water and shoes!

Or pick up a REALLY COOL Ordinary Hero shirt, Jacket, Hat or a Travel Mug! STEP UP and be an ORDINARY HERO for someone! YOU can support someone who is following God's calling and help them be able to afford to adopt a child or go on a Mission Trip!

Ordinary Hero is a local non-profit, that has many LOCAL outreach opportunties that serve the Middle Tennessee area. Please check out what all Ordinary Hero has to offer... You can be an ORDINARY HERO right here in your back yard!

15 weeks later....

Well, I keep getting lots of questions about Mamo's english, so here are some answers! He is PRACTICALLY fluent! Isn't that crazy? He knows everything we say, we spell a lot around here, and its a matter of time till the little stinker figures out what we are spelling....he is soo smart! He is always watching and listening and taking it all in! He doesn't miss a beat! But his english is VERY VERY good and its all the time!!!! Here are a few of my favorite things he says, that aren't quite right. "Please Noove... He get's his N's and M's mixed up.... Ha ha! And he loves to watch Noovies... I noticed the other day that ne now "plays in English", when he is playing with his cars by himself. Makes me a little sad to see that sweet Amharic go away.... :( But by George, he's got it!!!!

He is still LOVING school! Oh my! He would go everyday if we would let him! He loves to play and loves having friends! He is no longer stuck to leg at all times; he sees littles and he is off to play! He will say Mamo go play with his friends, and he is off!

He has been learning lots about Jesus and he thinks he is pretty cool. He still prays over our dinner each night, and his prayer has gotten pretty long. He says something like this (gotta get this one on the flip for yall)... Thank you Jesus, thanks for daddy, thanks for mommy, thanks for Robby, thanks for Caitlin, thanks for Acey, thanks for Copper, thanks for our house, thanks for daddy's car, thanks for mommy's car, thanks for Mamo's car, thanks for... it goes on and on. And if he is eating lunch by himself he prays too without prompting. He will start to eat, and then he will stop and pray!! So cute!!! Mamo will be baptized later this month!

Philip is from Kentucky, so of course he bleeds blue and he and Robby were soo excited the kitty kats made it to the final 4 this year! Mamo says he likes "Tucky" too! It was a tough game to watch....maybe next year!!!

Mamo has been wanting to try swimming for a while now, so on Sunday when our friends Stacee and David invited us over to swim after church, we jumped at the chance to introduce him to the swimming pool! He was a little hesitant at first and he clung tight to everyone! He played for a long time on the pool steps with a whole lotta toys! He thinks that his goggles are "fishy sunglasses!!!" Ha ha! Overall it was a GREAT first trip to the pool! He didn't want to leave!

Mamo is still talking alot about his birthday that is later this month!!!! He is excited about turning 4! :) He's most excited about his cake!!! This kids is ALWAYS thinking about eating!!! Ha! ha!

Well, off to work I go! Phil has the kids this am and I got a chance to have a quiet morning with coffee and catch up on some blogging! Thanks honey!!! :)

Guess who turns 4 this month???

Mamo-licous turns 4 this month! His birthday is April 28th!! He is sooo excited! :) We have been to a few birthday parties now... he still doesn't get the whole concept, but he gets that it is a party and that they have cake!! Ha! Ha!!

He brought home his April pre-school calendar and he is sooo proud that HIS birthday is on the calendar! :) Big smiles all the way around!

Can't wait for his party, but selfishly I wish he could be 3 a bit longer! He is such a BIG boy going to school now in the mornings... He loves it and acts like he has done it his whole life! He loves being with his friends, and sadly I am not even getting hugs goodbye at the door ( I still get blow kisses when he catches me glancing in his room!) Melts a mama's heart...

Gotta look for a FIRE ENGINE cake for his birthday! It's his newest obsession!

3 Months Home! Time flies when you are having FUN!

Well, this coming Sunday we will have been home 3 months with the little man! Man, time is flying by! We had our 12 week post placement social work visit this week! Mamo has really done sooo well in this transition; really, we all have. Bringing Mamo into our family has changed some dynamics and I am so proud of all of our family, as the adjustment really couldn't have gone any better!

Mamo's English is CRAZY good! His comprehension is through the roof, and verbally we can totally carry on a conversation now! He is VERY sharp and doesn't miss a thing! He is our little sponge and he is just soaking it all in!

He still eats ALL THE TIME! He has grown a few inches and gained 7 pounds! Getting hard for this mama to carry him around everywhere! He knows he is mama's "baby", so he expects to be carried! I have had to move him to riding my back, not sure how much longer I will be able to keep this up!

His favorite foods are Ethiopian Injera (we don't get it that often, but he LOVES it! when he does get it!)
, any kind of fruit, avocados, potatoes, yogurt, dinosaur chicken nuggets, french fries, corn, lima beans, peas, cupcakes, ice cream, pork chops, hamburgers, and any kind of wrap sandwich! I could really go on and on....and oh, I am not kidding this boy can eat his weight in FRUIT, and he is not a very picky eater AT ALL! He does not like anything with onions or tomatoes that he can see (typical 3 year old- ha ha!), he isn't particularly fond of fish, and well, that is really all I can come up with! Hence, the 2 inches and 7 LB weight gain in 11 weeks!

He loves Mickey Mouse (aka Mocha Mickey), Caliou, his train table, his Little People toys, movies like Nemo and Charlotte Web! He loves CLOTHES! He LOVES to pick out his shirts he wants to wear and he LOVES jeans! Some of them are already getting a little short on somebody!!! :)

He LOVES his brother and his sister, his daddy and his mommy, he LOVES playing outside! He LOVES riding in his car ( best $20 purchase from the consignment sale!!)
He also loves to ride his trike! He likes to eat lunch at his picnic table that we pull outside in the driveway when its pretty!
He loves going to birthday parties and having fun with his cousins!
He also is a BIG fan of the grocery store-- he wants to go EVERYDAY!
He loves that he gets to drive the cart that looks like a car, that they give him a cookie at the bakery, loves to help me pick out groceries, and loves that he gets stickers at the end of his visit! He also has gardened some with his sister and he LOVES picking flowers!

He loves to wash his car/picnic table/ trike/ my car... really anything you will let him wash, then he will do it! FOR FREE! ha ha! He is a BIG helper! He wants chores like the BIGs ... (they think he is CRAZY!) He loves to play with tools and "work" on his car...He loves to dress up like a dinosaur (I know its a dragon, but he doesn't know the difference! ha!)
We also did a little modeling...he's a natural. Look at that shot! AMAZING- how come I can't catch shots like that???

Mamo's love language is TOUCH! He is always climbing on me, Phil or the BIGS! He "attaches" his body to you (full wrap) and even then that is not enough! He smashes his cheeks against his cheeks, really tight and then squishes his hands on your face to pull you closer. He travels with it too..first me, then on to Philip, then on to Robby and then to Caitlin. He makes his rounds! Ha!

I am telling you...its the sweetest thing ever and he is probably going to "smother" some cute little girl one day with his LOVE! He LOVES to be holding you, or have you carrying him or climbing all over you and smothering you with his love! Fine with us! :) So , needless to say, yes, we would say the past 11 weeks of attachment went REALLY well, and really fast! God's hand was in it from the day we met him last July and he has just surprised us and amazed us throughout this adoption!

Mamo has been able to watch 3 of his friends, from his actual orphanage in Ethiopia come home! That was such a beautiful reunion! We are currently praying for 2 more hopefully to arrive REAL soon; they are just waiting for clearance to travel!! 2 more cuties coming HOME! and to Franklin TN! Woo Hoo!

Mamo is doing GREAT going to school! He loves it! Today he kept asking to see his friends! He couldn't wait to get there this morning!~ He loves doing art work, playing with his friends, going outside, learning his zoo phonics, eating lunch (of course) ha ha, he LOVES his teachers- especially teacher Lucy! He said she was his friend and he really LOVES her! Makes me feel soo good because......

Today was my first day back to work! Argh I know! I have mixed feelings really about it! I have LOVED that my company allowed me the time to BOND with our new son! It was sooo important and I believe that is partly why this transition went so smoothly for our family! I have thoroughly enjoyed doing the "at home mom things" for 11 weeks- and it was A LOT more work than I anticipated! So, that is why I HATE going back... it was so much work that I feel like I never got a chance to RELAX! I thought you at home mama's had it made, but I think going back to work is going to give me a little bit more time in my day to get some things accomplished... it seems like time was going by so fast while I was at home with him!
I am going to miss being with him 24/7 like crazy! Please pray for us that this will be an easy transition for all of us! This is going to be an adjustment as we find our new NORMAL again! Mamo doesn't think I work; he thinks its funny when I tell him that I work. He thinks only daddy works! I was talking with customers today and really started getting excited about going back to work! I love what I do and I love the doctors that I call on! They are my friends and I am blessed to have a job that I love and that I like to do everyday! Mamo thinks its funny that mommy works with doctors! He wants to be a doctor when he grows up he says!!! :) Everyday he asks to go to the grocery store and to go get shots.. ha ha ha! :) Bless his heart!

We have scheduled Mamo's baptism with our church end of April. It will be a private baptism, because we requested to have Reverend Wright, our former pastor, and Mack Strange perform his baptism. We are so thrilled about this! We feel that Revernd Wright was VERY responsible for us adopting! He is the one that encouaged us to give money away one morning to someone outside the walls of our church. We did that, by having a charity yard sale for a young girl who has a ministry in Africa. Those were our intentions, and that was all. Next thing we know my son and I are on a Mission trip with Ordinary Hero in Ethiopia, Africa and on the 5th day we met Mamo. That was in July... God always have bigger plans than we realize and we are so happy that these 2 men stirred our hearts to seek his BIGGER plan for our family.

So, as you can see our life has been crazy busy, full of extra love and we are so thankful for this journey! :)

Philip and I have always said that we move from one major life event to another... so with this adoption complete, and hte adjsutment looking like it was a success, we have made the gut wrenching decision to put our home on the market. (SIGH) We LOVE our home and our neighbors, but Robby, our oldest just got accepted to CPA (so proud of him!), which is where his sister goes, and the comute is waning on us!
So, we have made the TOUGH decision to list our home and move closer to the school! Looking forward to NOT having 2 hours worth of commute time and having more time with our family. Our home hit the market today!
Please pray that this house sells quickly and that we find something that we like just as well a lot closer to our kiddos school!

Please continue to PRAY that GOD will find FAVOR for the 5 MILLION PLUS Orphans in Ethiopia! There are some things going on that are threatening the slowdown of Ethiopia adoptions by 90%. We have lots of friends still in the adoption process and some just starting...
There are children that arrived the same day as Mamo still there.... Please Lord, let them get home to their families, please don't let them grow up without parents and without being loved. Please dont let them have come this far to be told NO, again... And afterall, Mamo just might need another sibling someday...
